The Detroit blog is a good idea because it will keep readers from a certain location interested. It almost acts as an aggregator through the author’s sharing many links and stories about Detroit. With many different outlets for national news a lot of news about smaller communities never gets covered.

Of course, most journalists would probably not want to cover hyper local events, but in order for journalism to survive, it is going to have to specialize in certain areas. This blog about Detroit and its uncertain future is a step in the right direction.

In order to perfect what they are offering their audience, they will have to make the websites more interactive. There isn’t very many outlets to share the stories with. I couldn’t find a twitter icon or facebook.

The idea of buying a house to make sure they write and discover as much about a community is very innovative. It offers a different approach that I don’t think many other news outlets have discovered.

The reporting weakness is that they might be too close to the subject they are covering. It almost seems like they are biased towards Detroit regaining its strength.

Just add some interactive options and it will be gold.
